I have been painting quite some time. As a teenager I knew I wanted to be an artist, a painter, to be specific.

I was taught some good skills in high school, thanks to some great art teachers who took the time to encourage me. These teachers introduced me to and taught the traditions of print making art - starting with collographs, lino cuts and moving on to etching. They grounded me in drawing techniques and print making process and taught me about using fine art processes and materials.

Painting I learned about when I went to art school at RMIT from 1983-85 - the excitement and trepidation of making it to the professional studio practise of art school is still strong in my mind. And from that time to this, all these years later, the feeling is the same. Painting is foremost in my waking mind, informed by all I see and hear and read. Music is my second great necessity, with phrases, rhythms and melodies rolling around my mind and exploding into colour.

Colour is my strongest sensibility when it comes to painting as I’m essentially a colourist at heart.
